WOODRIVER CELLARS WINES PICK UP THREE AWARDS AT PRESTIGIOUS FINGER LAKES INTERNATIONAL WINE COMPETITION
WRC 2008 Riesling Earns Silver Medal While 2006 Cab-Malbec and 2007 Riesling Capture Bronze Designations
Eagle, Idaho, April 24, 2009 – Woodriver Cellars (www.woodrivercellars.com) has received the results from last month’s 2009 Finger Lakes International Wine Competition (FILWC) and the Eagle, Idaho winery grabbed honors for three of its outstanding wines. The winners this time were the 2008 Riesling, which earned a silver medal, the 2007 Riesling, which got a bronze and the 2006 Cab-Malbec, which nabbed a bronze as well. The Finger Lakes International Wine Competition benefits Camp Good Days, which provides a positive camping experience for children that have been struck with life’s most difficult challenges (cancer, HIV/AIDS, domestic violence). It is also one of the most influential spring wine competitions in the greater New York region. Woodriver Cellars is proud to have been honored by the judges at the FILWC.
“We are honored to have had our wines judged so favorably at the Finger Lakes International Competition,” Woodriver Cellars winemaker Neil Glancey declared. “This event is noteworthy as a competition that features Riesling wines and for two of our Rieslings to earn medals is quite an achievement. Our 2008 Riesling has 4% residual sugar and is very aromatic with a strong hint of apple on the nose. The 2007 Riesling is a light, crisp, off-dry Riesling with 1% residual sugar. In that sense, it is more of a traditional Auslese, or late harvest style German Riesling. The 2006 Cab-Malbec features the Malbec, which is our ‘flagship’ grape. This wine is juicy and jammy with a black pepper finish. The Cab-Malbec is very popular at our tasting room. Over all, we are very pleased with our performance at this great competition.”
